3 Easy Steps on How to Learn Violin by Yourself

Even when I was a young boy I knew that I wanted to become a musician. I was so sure of myself that I knew that if only I could be given a chance I could prove to myself that I have some talent. Unfortunately I never did get that chance. We were very poor and both of my parents were struggling just to be able to feed all of us. There was no way that they could afford to let me have my own musical instrument, or have musical lessons under a qualified instructor.

Of all the musical instruments it was the violin that I wanted to learn and master. For me it produced the best sound that there is. But I knew that to learn the violin was something that was beyond our means back then. It was something that I could only dream about. I have to be content with myself with dreaming that someday I would have my chance. I never did tell my parents about my dream. I did not want to add to their frustration. I knew that they were unhappy because they could not give us a better life. I just made a promise to myself that when I had my own means I would become a musician and I will learn how to play the violin.

So years passed by and I started working and earning my own money. I am better off now than in the past, but still I have to work hard in order to earn a living. I never forgot about my dream on learning to become a musician but it seems that I still am unable to find enough time for having some formal lessons. Good thing I came across a friend of mine who told me some delightful news. He told me that he was learning violin on his own. At first I did not want to believe him. I knew that learning how to play the violin can only be learned by being under the guidance of some qualified instructor. But then he shared to me the steps that he had learned.

Now I am making progress towards achieving my lifelong dream. I know that there are more out there who would like to start learning how to play the violin but do not have the time to do it. For you people here are some simple steps that you can follow on how to learn violin by yourself:

1. The first thing for you to do is to get a good violin

There are countless makes of violins being sold over the Internet at really cheap prices, if you are serious about your music and you really want to learn don’t buy these cheap instruments. There is no need to get a very expensive professional piece since you are just starting to learn, but you should buy a violin that is around $300 or more. There are plenty of places where you can get information for tips on picking the right instrument. Online forums are the best venue for asking questions on the right violin to get. For a couple of quick recommendations you might want to look at the Cremona SV-225 Student violin for around $300 or the Stentor 1542 violin at around $325. Both are full sized.

2. Once you have the right instrument the next step is to get some lessons

This is the problem with most people like me. They don’t have the time, but the lesson that I am referring to is not the usual kind of lesson where you go for instruction, or the instructor comes to you. With today’s technology there are numerous alternative ways on how you can get some violin lessons. There are DVDs that offer informative lessons, there also online courses that can teach you the basics of violin playing. Once you have mastered the basics then you can move on to the next level.

3. The third and most important lesson of all, is to practice

Once you have grasped the basics you should not stop there. Only constant practice will allow you to improve and master your skills to the next level. You’ll be surprised at how far you can go with your musical education by teaching yourself how to play violin if you practice diligently. Most folks seem to think that teach yourself violin programs are scams. The fact of the matter is that most folks don’t have the discipline to practice if there isn’t a real live teacher hounding them. It’s not that the lessons are crap it’s that they don’t have the perseverance and persistence to teach themselves and to practice.

These are the steps that you can follow on how you can teach yourself the violin. They may sound very simple but trust me when I say that if you follow it and you really want to learn, it will be effective. And once you have a good grounding in the basics you can then seek out a qualified violin teacher. At which time, spending money on a monthly basis for violin tutoring will be well worth it.
