Hey there, Michael here again… obviously, it’s my blog! This post is going to be all about how to teach yourself violin. I’ve had a couple of friends who don’t play the violin ask me if it’s possible to teach yourself violin and I think it’s totally possible. As a matter of fact, I’m doing it myself. So is my dad and so is my nephew.
Though to be totally upfront with you, my nephew and I also take lessons from a teacher every couple of weeks or so. But my dad doesn’t, and he’s old (sorry dad) or older and his proof that you can teach yourself to play the violin.
Now the key is practice of course and you should spend at least 30 minutes a day 5 days a week practicing the violin. I spend closer to an hour, between 45 minutes and an hour learning violin. But I think 30 minutes would be a good start. That’s what my dad does, and he’s just been playing around 6 months.
Recently my dad and I surprised my mom on her birthday by playing a couple of Celtic fiddle songs that my mom’s dad used to play before he passed away. She was so moved she started crying… happy tears though. And if I don’t mind saying so myself, we sounded okay, actually we sounded pretty good.
So how to teach yourself violin is totally possible. There are many ways to do it. You can go to the library and borrow books. You can go to a music store and buy teach yourself violin CDs and DVDs. But what I’ve found has worked best for me is to learn to play violin online. There is a great online course on how to teach yourself violin that I’m using and I highly recommend. It makes it all so easy and simple.
Easy exercises, tons of videos to play along too, and the guy Eric, just makes it so much enjoyable than my teacher does. Shh, don’t tell her that!
So if you want to know how to teach yourself violin, get a good violin as the first thing. Then get this teach yourself violin course that is really helpful. One of the best things about it is that you don’t have to drive anywhere and you don’t have to deal with your teacher’s disapproving looks as you’re learning.
You can learn violin online and it is fun and easy. Easy because it’s fun. You still have to put in the sweat equity, I’m not gonna lie. Anyway I hope you’ve enjoyed this how to teach yourself violin post. Next time I’m going to tell you exactly how I quickly improved.
Cheers,
Michael
