My artistic side has always asserted itself. Even though there were times in the past when I would try to control or manage it, in the end it always surfaces. Which is perfectly fine with me since that is what I want to be known for, being an artist. The temperament that I have is definitely that of an artist, and my family has learned to live with it through the years. I should add that I am not the kind who has extreme mood swings, but I am admittedly moody at times, even if only subdued. The artistic side of me will always be the one that will serve as my guide in making decisions in my life, like when I chose to be a visual artist.
My foray into the visual arts has largely been successful, as I have had a few exhibits of my own, plus some lucrative freelance work. All in all I can say that my venture into painting was the right thing to do, and that I have been successful because of that one decision. But now another side of my artistic personality is beckoning, and I am definitely going to answer that call as well. This time around, it is all about music, and I am determined to learn the musical instrument of my choice. That instrument happens to be the violin. And I am determined to learn as much as I could about it. Right now I am learning how to use violin rosin.
Rosin for Violin
I am eagerly learning everything that I can about the violin, and I am discovering small details that it more interesting, like the use of the rosin. Rosin is actually used to make the bow of the violin sticky. That way, the bow hair can grip the strings better, and allow the violin to produce the desired sound. In the process, the hair actually grips the string and then pulls it, with the movement of the bow allowing the string to get back to its original position. It is a cycle that produces the desired sounds from the violin.
To use the rosin properly, you need to apply it evenly to the hair. Too little or too much rosin would not serve the purpose well enough. Applying the rosin through long slow strokes would be the best way to apply it. You need to press the bow softly against rosin and then move it in both directions to make sure that there is enough amount of rosin that will go to the bow. Once you have applied of the rosin, you need to stop to avoid putting too much of it. Be sure to check on the bow every now and then to see if there is a need to touch it up with rosin again.
