Learn How to Vibrato Violin

My appreciation of music came a little late. I’m actually regretting the time that has gone by when I was not able to fully appreciate the beauty and the wonder that music is able to provide. But don’t get me wrong here, because I have always been a music lover and I was always listening to popular music for as long as I can remember. What I am referring to is a deeper kind of appreciation, an understanding that is borne from actually learning how to play a musical instrument, and about getting to know the technical side and aspect of it. And that is now embodied by my study of the violin.

I’m right in the thick of learning to play the instrument, and it ahs been quite a revelation to me. More than ever, I am appreciating the beauty and wonder of music, and I am better informed at how it connects to deep within us all, stirring and inspiring. And there are so many things to learn yet, but I am not complaining at all. It presents a new world that is so exciting and just full of promise, just like what I am engaged in right now, which is learning how to vibrato violin.

Violin Vibrato Tips

Vibrato is actually a common technique utilized by violinists in order for the pitch of a note to either go up and down quickly. It is done by moving the string that presses on the string forward and backward carefully and slowly. It is done to infuse more emotion to the music, make it seem more heartfelt and sincere.

• With the violin on the shoulder and a finger pressing down on a string, move your left arm towards the instrument and with the finger rolling with the movement of the hand. Move the arm towards the scroll, and it is this movement along with the rolling motion of the fingertip creates the vibrato.

• Practice the arm movement of the vibrato by drawing the bow across the string that is being pressed. Move the arm back and forth, slowly at first. Then you can pick up speed as you go along.

• To create hand vibrato, place a finger on a string and use the wrist this time to move the hand back and forth in the same way as before.

• Again put a finger on a string and move it back and forth as before. This will duplicate the arm vibrato, but only making use of the finger to create the vibrato.
