Appreciation of music is universal. Enjoying it goes beyond any boundaries that have been unwittingly set by man and are just artificial anyway. Since music is not artificial but rather one of the most genuine and beautiful manifestations of art and emotion there is, it surely goes beyond it. The appreciation and enjoyment of different kinds of music is not bounded nor is it tied to age, race, religious beliefs, gender or any other category that would only serve to limit it. So it is there for everyone to listen to, whatever type of music it might be and however he might want to listen to it or even play it. In that sense, music is also quite personal since it depends on the person’s taste and personal inclinations.
I am like most people when it comes to music, I appreciate good music and would listen to it as often as I could. And I also play some instruments, although I cannot describe my playing to be any good, but I still play it for the sheer enjoyment that I get from it. I’ve been persisting in playing though, and I am even bent on learning on a whole new musical instrument. The instrument that I chose would be the toughest one to play among those that I have selected, though. It’s the violin that I am planning on learning, and it presents a different and unique challenge to me, having been fascinated with its sound for the longest time now.
Sound of the Violin
The sound of the violin has always been fascinating for me, as it has for so many others. There are those who cannot place what it actually sounds like. They ask what does a violin sound like. Others might have a better ear for it and appreciate it more than others, but still cannot describe it as properly as those who are more musically trained. And if an explanation for the way it sounds is sought, particularly when taken in relation to other popular musical instruments, the violin is considered to be an instrument that produces a very high pitched sound. This is in contrast to another popular instrument, the guitar, which is considered to possess a very low sound. In addition to that, it is also important to note that every violin player has a distinct sound that he is able to produce. This might take many years of practice to happen, but in the end, every sound produced by the violin is a distinct one and depends on the ability and the mood of the player.
