Tips on How to Make Your Violin Sound Better

Music soothes and calms our very souls within us. That’s how I feel about it and that is also the general sentiment that music lovers all over the world feel. When I started being a music fan and lover, which was way back when I was still a young kid, it was all about the happy feeling and excitement that I feel whenever I hear my favorite tunes played. But as I grew older and started to have a deeper understanding and appreciation of music things rather changed for me. It all became about the deep connection that I am able to have with the message of the words and the emotion and passion that is in each musical note that I hear.

With the kind of love that I had for music, it only followed that I would learn to play an instrument or two. It was just a matter of time and circumstance, actually, which dictated what instrument and how many I would be able to learn. As it turned out, I first learned how to play the guitar, and then I went from that to the piano. Eventually I was able to go and learn my dream instrument, the violin. Knowing that it was a little difficult to learn, I proceeded with caution and tried to be as prepared for it as possible. Right now I am still in the process of learning everything about it; I’m only in the beginning stages actually. I’m finding it both a joy and a challenge.

Making my Violin Sound Better

I am just starting out with my violin playing lessons, and I want to go about it carefully. There is no denying that I am already itching to play some of the classic violin music that I have always wanted to play, and some contemporary pieces, but I understand the process and try to be as patient as I can. Right now I am just going about my training in a relaxed pace, and it is also fortunate for me to have a good and patient instructor. My focus right now is trying to learn how to make my sound better. So for those who are also learning the instrument like me, here’s how to make your violin sound better:

• Obviously, constant practice should be at the top of the list. It will one get better with his playing skills, and also become very familiar with the instrument and the feel of it each time.

• Straighten the bridge, making sure that it is perpendicular to the top of the violin. If you see that is slightly leaning forward, then try to straighten it immediately.

• Learn when to change the strings. This is a key component of making the violin sound good, and it has to be done every few months or so. Also, try not to go too cheap and make sure that you only get quality strings.

• Improve your tuning. It’s practically a no-brainer that a finely tuned instrument just sounds better than one that isn’t.

• Replace the hair on the bow. If the hair is already over a year old, be sure to replace it with a new one.

• Never settle for anything but the best rosin. It is just like the situation with your strings; make sure you only use the best ones available.
